A history of encounters

Founded in 1976 by Daniel Despierres, our shipyard is now recognized as a major player in traditional marine carpentry and joinery.  When Nicolas Chanteloup took over the business in 2016, transferring its ownership from the fisherman to the skipper, the Despierres shipyard was given a new lease of life. In fact, the tradition of marine carpentry and joinery lives on and continues to evolve, in order to respectfully preserve maritime heritage with regard to people, materials and the sea.

A human adventure

Our yard brings together men and women from different backgrounds – carpenters, joiners, design office engineers, graduates of the prestigious Ecole Boulle, people re-training for new professions, apprentices, etc. – whose different skills complement each other. It is our passion for wood and quality craftsmanship, and our desire to work together, that unites us in a true, collective spirit for the long haul.

OUR SERVICES

Working with raw wood is our job, passion and art. We master and sculpt it, aiming to bestow its qualities upon the sea and to build a bridge between humankind and the ocean, whenever the waves crash against it. We specialise in wood-based products for the maritime industry: traditional carpentry, joinery and wood fittings, boat decks, manufacture of wooden masts and spars, varnishing, etc

« When I took over the DESPIERRES shipyard on 1 May 2016, on Labour Day, a secret childhood dream came true: to be a marine carpenter, to build on and preserve our heritage, to navigate through history. »
